Cause I'm Just So Stinkin' Interesting

I have been tagged recently by my gals Lis at La Mia Cucina and Lynn at Cookie Baker Lynn to do the 7 random things. I have actually done this before, where I revealed such embarassing secrets as my webbed toes and my short stint on Dancin' On Air. But since they find me so stinkin' interesting I will dig into my world and find seven more. But I think I am done after this. Now you will know everything about me except my bra size and social security number.

1.) I have hypothyroidism. I was just diagnosed with it two weeks ago. Hypothyroidism is where the thyroid gland in your throat doesn't produce enough thyroid hormones. It can cause fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, sore muscles, thin brittle hair. I have a mild case of it since I show no symptoms. Was going to go on a mild dose of the medicine, but found out I have an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in the medicine after getting a splitting headache and insomnia from one day on it. So for now I am on no meds and just go every 3 months to make sure my levels don't get any higher. Fun getting old huh?

2.) My ears stick out. Along with the webbed toes this paints a pretty picture of me, doesn't it? As a girl, this isn't too bad cause you can cover them with your hair. But as a child I did get picked on when wearing a ponytail or my hair pulled back. I got called "Dumbo" many a times. My parents contemplated getting me the surgery to get them fixed when I was a child, but decided not to put me thought it. I rarely notice them now, and could care less about them when I wear a ponytail. Must be the reason I hear so well.

3.) I love to paint rooms. And am most proud of my dining room wall, which if we move, will make me the most sad in parting from my home. Check out my handywork. (Try to look around the cats and the cat tree, that was before we could move it into their room.) You may have seen it before in some of my other pictures. I did this in one weekend, with a tape measure, a level and a pencil. Takes a little bit of time but so worth it.

4.) I have a monsterous obsession with Halloween. So much I have a Halloween tattoo on my lower back. (The picture below is shortly after I got it, so it wasn't fully healed yet.) I was born in October, love the Fall, so I go all out when that month rolls around. It is my goal to make my house, the house on the street that all the kids stop by on Halloween and say "cool". My friends and I also host a huge Halloween party called Halloween Hangover that is the equivalent to the Super Bowl for us. I have a collection of previous costumes in the basement that I keep like a museum. It is not just a holiday for me, its a religion.

5.) I hate peas and I hate fish (love shellfish, just hate regular fish), so if you ever blog about it and I don't comment on it, don't take it personal. I also tend to not comment on other blogs when they make alot of regular food, unless its a BLT made on a waffle, or anything made with tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. I like to eat regular food, don't get me wrong, but I tend to gravitate on blogs to only the desserts. I call regular food what you have to eat to get to the dessert.

6.) My husband and I hate going to the movies. We have had free tickets to use at a theater now for 7 months and haven't touched them. We barely rent movies either. We just have this aversion to burning 2 hours of our life away when we feel we could be doing something else. But then the other stuff we do in place of it ain't that exciting either. Every once in a blue moon a movie comes out that we will at least rent, but to get us to go to the theater, now that would be an accomplishment. The last time I saw a movie at the theater was the new version of Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory.

7.) I'm afraid of armored cars. This all started when I got caught in the middle of a mall shooting in 1997. A man robbed an armored car and ran through the mall to get away shooting as he went. I spent a good portion of the shooting hiding along with 20 other people in the warehouse of Sears. Since then whenever we go to a place that has an armored car outside, I make my husband wait until it leaves before we get out of the car or go in the store.

1997 Mall Shooting

That ends that fun on a happy note.

Although we both like movies, my husband and I went to our first movie in almost 2 years a couple of weekends ago. My husband has a hard time sitting through a whole movie - he usually gets so antsy about two-thirds through that he wants to leave. We sometimes rent, but both usually end up falling asleep before the movie is over!

It's good to know more things about you :)

I too agree it's really frightening to be in a place where theres actually a shoot out. I've experienced this twice and even until now I still have my fears.

I am sorry to hear about your illness Cheryl. My cousin had it once. I hope you will do better. You are very talented at painting and your Halloween tattoos... that's what I call a real obsession.
Have a great weekend Cheryl

Wow, Cheryl, I am impressed that you found 7 more interesting things to share. I love the wall you painted - it looks professionally done! I'll make ice cream for you if you'll come paint for me. :-)

Awesome dining room wall! You done good!

I'm right there with you about Halloween being a religion. I start decorating in early Sept. and have been known to start in August on occasion. And NOTHING comes down until Xmas, with quite a few things left out year round. I spend the most money at Halloween because I can't stop with my addiction to anything related to it. hehee

I'm sorry to hear about the thyroid thing, I hope it stays under control and that you don't have many problems with it!

And HOLY CRAP! I can't believe you were in the midst of gunfire! I am so glad you got out unscathed!! I don't blame you for your fear at all.. I think it's a wise choice to wait until the f'n truck moves along. God.

xoxo

I am hypo too. If you have questions let me know...I have dealt with it for years.
We hardly go to the movies but we do watch them at home. I get antsy almost always though. But at least at home I can watch the move and cook something at the same time.

I loved reading this! Okay - here were my thoughts....
hypothyroid - the the allergic reaction-causing ingredient in all the meds? Did they put you in cynthroid (sp?) or Levoxyl (I am on that one)
The painting - Can I hire you? :) I love that wall!!! (See all the more reason to think about Atlanta if you relocate...hee hee
I am with you on the movies. I rent them every now and again, but abhor going to the theater...

Ooooh, that's a very interesting 7 random facts! I'm sorry to hear about the thyroid problem - one of my sister's friends has it and I've talked with her before about how difficult it can be and how it affects her life, so I'm glad yours is a mild case and I hope it stays that way.

And the Halloween obsession is awesome! Being in Australia, we don't celebrate it here, but just ONCE I'd love to experience what Halloween is like :)

Cheryl what a fabulous dining room wall. And I just love the kitties! I hope you get your thyroid problems in control...
Oh...that mall shooting is a terrible experience I would be so terrified too of armoured cars if I got caught in a crossfire because of one.
